The northen Italian lakes are a very popular tourist destination for both Italian and foreign tourists. The really outstanding landscape that they create and the mildness of the climate make lake resorts ideal for a quiet and relaxing holiday. Activities in this area are sunbathing and sports. The Pre-alpine lakes have attracted visitors since Roman times. The largest alpine lake is Lake Garda stretching out among the regions of Lombardy, Veneto and Trentino. Lake Maggiore stretches out for 66 km as far as Switzerland. In this lake there are three spectaculer islets: Isola Bella, Isola dei Pescatori and Isola Madre. Lake Como has three arms which branch out from centre.
